New Job at Orla Kiely

I am absolutely delighted to announce that on Monday I will be starting my new job as a full time sales advisor at Orla Kiely!

After a month of unemployment, countless job applications and numerous unsuccessful interviews I was feeling rather despondent about the possibility of finding anything in these difficult economic times. Every night a dozen financial worries would buzz around furiously in my head until I was finally able to fall asleep.

I sent a speculative email to Orla Kiely asking if they would keep my CV on hold until a vacancy arose and was surprised to hear from them the very next day inviting me to an interview. I was then asked to a second interview the very next day at the head office and was offered a job that evening! I cannot express how much of a pleasure it is going to be to work for a brand I have adored since I first discovered it many years ago. The shop layout is just gorgeous, full of midcentury furniture and gorgeous Orla Kiely ceramics and soft furnishings. And the clothes are adorable: all peacoats, mustard velvet, fox print crepe and silk peter pan collared blouses. I will be able to enact my 1960s fantasy lifestyle just by swanning around the store!

Here are some images from their AW12 campaign. I love this first image of the model hiding under an umbrella in an ivy green leather pea coat against a very British foggy landscape.

I can't think of a brand I'd be more thrilled to work for!

  9. A big congratulations - it's a very exciting brand to work for. I love the 'Orla' aesthetic, and own her book of patterns and prints. The shots above hold particular resonance for me, as they remind me very much of the area where I live. I'm from the rural west midlands, and the shots of the dusty pianos and plastic chairs in village halls are quite familiar sights to me..
