Columbia Road Flower Market

Today Jian Wei and I both had the day off together and the forecast was good so we set off for Columbia Road Flower Market in Shoreditch. I had never been before but had heard so many wonderful things about it that I couldn't wait to finally visit. The weather indeed turned out to be glorious and so the market was heaving. The Cockney market traders were making a killing as all of London had turned out it seemed to stock up on cabbage flowers, rose hips and lilies in the sunshine. We treated ourselves to a £3 bunch of red tulips.

I wore two items from my recent uniform acquisitions: the heavy wool dress and silk blouse by Orla Kiely. It is such a pleasure to wear such beautiful clothes for work and even better to be able to take them for a spin on the weekends! I feel like I couldn't have designed a better collection if I were a designer myself: every single item is adorably sixties' inspired and so beautifully made. I am excited already for the SS13 collection, of which you can view the video by Maximilla Lukacs here.

After we had purchased our tulips we wandered around Arnold Circus exploring all the pretty little shops and posh greengrocers. It's such a quiet area, it felt more like Amsterdam than East London.

Jian Wei wore an American Apparel coat, COS jumper, thrifted Oxford shirt and H&M jeans.

  3. I love Columbia Road market... except it is always super busy, even when I went there on a drizzly day recently. I love your photographs of all the stalls and flowers - really beautiful.

  4. This outfit is just wonderful. I'm going to be completely honest, I'm super jealous of your new Orla Kiely collection (and your job) I wish I could afford it. Especially that yellow skirt, it's heavenly. Also, I love the photos, the colours are so beautiful and the flowers are so vibrant. You've convinced me to go on a trip there now.

  9. That blouse is so sweet - I'm loving the treble colour. The pinafore is gorgeous too. I have to admit to being more than a little green-eyed at your new job. I absolutely adore Orla Kiely but unfortunately my bank account doesn't! I'm currently job hunting myself and it's really inspiring to hear about how you landed this job. Also I'm just after stumbling upon your blog and I absolutely love it. Ok I think that may be more than enough gushing and swooning for one comment :)

  12. You're basically wearing my dream fall outfit--a cozy pinafore dress with a romantic (and perfectly collared!) silk blouse. I adore everything Orla Kiely makes, but all my pennies are going to grad school tuition at the moment. Looks like I'll just have to wait until I'm a rich and famous archivist! ;)

  14. Beautiful lady! These photo's are so lovely. I love it around there so much, especially Arnold Circus, it's so pretty in the spring and full of Hollyhocks. You are a very lucky lady to call that a uniform, it's an absolutely gorgeous outfit.
    Happy Christmas xx
