Nabokov's masterpiece should be read by all and followed by watching Adrian Lyne's painfully beautiful 1997 film adaptation. Just veto the 1960s Kubrick one altogether - it's naff and dreadful. Nothing is as visually and aurally evocative as this film, take a little look for yourself...

  1. I read this book freshman year and only liked it. After seeing the film, I should probably read it again. I loved the film in all it's bright colors, and drastic mood changes.

  2. i haven't seen this version yet. jeremy irons seems like he would make a more attractive/ less creepy humbert humbert... but i don't know about melanie griffith. shelly winters was so wonderful in the original. could she really trump that?
